18th Target Fabrication Meeting

As co-sponsors for the 18th Target Fabrication Meeting, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the University of Rochester's Laboratory for Laser Energetics welcome your participation at the conference to be held at the the Granlibakken Conference Center and Lodge in Lake Tahoe, California, May 11th through May 15th, 2008.

The topics to be discussed will cover the diverse plenitude of subjects that comprise all aspects of fabricating targets for experiments on high-power, high-energy laser, and pulsed power facilities. These include but are not limited to

  • Capsule fabrication and properties (including hohlraums)
  • Target assembly and metrology/characterization technologies
  • Cryogenic target handling systems
  • Cryogenic layer formation and characterization
  • Radiological issues related to tritium and activated infrastructures

The conference's format will resemble previous conferences. Plenary presentations will be used to introduce the topics of the session. The remaining presentations will be contributed papers. Oral presentations will be augmented by poster presentations. The agenda includes poster presentations after dinne, except for the day of the conference dinner.

We are accepting nominations for the Foreman Award. Please include a brief description explaining your justification for the nomination (limit is one page). These are due to the conference committee by COB 1 March 2008. Please email them to the conference email.

FS&T Publication:

We will once again encourage publication of conference papers in a special edition of Fusion Science and Technology (FS&T). The papers will be peer reviewed and should represent original work. If you wish to submit your paper for publication in the FS&T, papers can be sent electronically to Bob Cook (bobcook@llnl.gov). Papers are due on 20 June 2008 . Papers should be submitted double-spaced on standard paper, with figures and figure captions appended. An abstract should also be included. The specifications for the final format will be distributed to authors with accepted papers after the conference.
